Noise Singapore
About Noise
An initiative of the National Arts Council, Noise Singapore is Singapore’s foremost youth arts festival, dedicated to creating noise about the creative talents of youths below the age of 35 in Singapore. Instead of presenting these works in conventional exhibitions held at predictable spaces, Noise works will be seen and heard across all media channels such as the Internet, radio, television, magazines and newspapers, allowing them to be seen by the world, enabling the nation’s best young talents to get spotted for their creativity.
Noise Singapore also aims to unearth new talent and inspire groundbreaking content from youths in Singapore. With a series of workshops and concert platforms organised to give promising Noise artists the necessary exposure and skills, young people from all walks of life now have the opportunity to actively participate in the arts, instead of merely being passive audiences.
Milestones for 2009/10

National Arts Council
The National Arts Council (NAC) was established in September 1991 to spearhead the development of the arts in Singapore. To realise its vision of developing Singapore into a distinctive global city for the arts, NAC provides total support to nurture artistic talent, promotes the practice and appreciation of the arts among Singaporeans, builds up capabilities and resources, facilitates internationalisation and advocates the value of the arts. Through its holistic range of programmes and initiatives to develop the entire arts value chain, the Council champions the growth of a vibrant arts sector where the arts is accessible to all, and the community of artists, arts groups and arts businesses can innovate, excel and achieve sustainability in the long term.

The Apprenticeship Programme
The Apprenticeship Programme (TAP) is back again this year with more developmental opportunities than ever! Over the past two years, TAP has established itself as a critical component of Noise Singapore that provides aspiring artists and musicians a leg up into the creative industries. Bands and soloists have gone on to cut albums after their TAP stints, while artists and designers have landed jobs as a result of the exposure and opportunities provided by TAP.
The only 10-week apprenticeship programme of its kind that pairs budding young artists with some of Singapore's most accomplished illustrators, photographers, filmmakers and musicians, TAP provided the young apprentices exposure and hands-on experience that will give them a leg-up into the creative industry. While the budding artists, designers, photographers and filmmakers got a chance to work with mentors on cool commercial and personal projects, the aspiring musicians got to work with local music heavyweights to write and record two original songs each. These songs can be heard on the music player on the Noise homepage.
